In the Cultivating Character series of books, Richard H. Buchholz shows you how to use three simple principles to prepare students to become good workers, citizens and parents. Each book contains 12 master pages with a positive message written for students at a specific grade level. Every month, photocopy the new message and post it on the bulletin board, give it to students to hang in lockers or to keep in their personal journals, and send it home to parents for posting on refrigerator doors. With constant repetition, the ”thought for the month” will help high-school students develop healthy, positive attitudes about themselves — in school, at home and beyond.

About the Author

Richard H. Buchholz has been an industrial arts teacher, a high-school counselor, high-school principal and director of a jobs program for youth. He received his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, his master’s degree in industrial engineering from Bowling Green University and his counseling certificate from the University of Toledo. Over the years he has become an advocate for the use of praise as a motivating tool for parents and teachers and directs the American Praise Institute. He speaks frequently on parenting, teaching and the importance of maintaining a positive attitude — and he has written several books on those subjects.
