New Journal Helps Continue Spiritual Formation Following Initiation

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 20, 2009—Resource Publications announces the publication of Deepening the Mystery: A Guided Journal through Mystagogia by Blessie LaScola.  How long does the mystagogia period last in your parish? Does it end after Pentecost? Here is a way to keep the newly initiated reflecting on their experiences, understanding what has changed in their lives and how they feel about it, and growing into their future as Catholic Christians.

DEEPENING THE MYSTERY
A Guided Journal through Mystagogia
Blessie LaScola
Paper, $13.95
112 pages, 8 1/2" x 11"
ISBN 0-89390-683-2

Deepening the Mystery; A Guided Journal through Mystagogia is designed to help the newly initiated look back to the rites and forward to the future through thought-provoking questions based primarily on the rites as well as on the formation period. The book is a tool to let the newly initiated reflect on their experience in a way that will deepen their understanding and their relationship with Jesus Christ, as well as help them set goals for future spiritual growth. Drawing on many years of work with the catechumenate, the author has formulated a series of questions designed to stimulate growth and reflection. It can also be used as a resource for the catechumenate team to use as an indicator of what the neophytes should experience in the RCIA process.

About the author:
Blessie LaScola entered into Full Communion of the Roman Catholic Church in 1976.  She has served as a Master Catechist for the Diocese of San Jose for more than twenty years.  Since 1978 she has been active in the areas of catechesis, sacramental preparation, and faith formation through the process of Christian initiation. For eighteen years she has served adults, youth, and children in the process.  She serves on the Catechumenate Committee for the Diocese of San Jose, has been the coordinator for the Beginnings and Beyond National Forum Institute, and has mentored lay leaders in the diocese towards developing and implementing the catechumenate process in their parish.
