St. Isabel is located on Sanibel Island which is renowned for its seashells. The candleholders reflect the natural beauty of the environment and the shape of the sanctuary itself. The stem is formed by three panels with seashell motifs, reflecting the Trinity. The sand dollar, also a sacred symbol, is centrally located on each panel and features an embossed cross. Seaweed patterns, also found in the stained glass around the sanctuary, weave gracefully among the shells in the panels. The base is a pentagram and mirrors the shape of the sanctuary roof, replaced following damage by Hurricane Charlie in 2004. On two of the six candle holders, five shells support the candle and form a removable processional candleholder. The patination features transparent hues based on underwater themes.
