Christian Community Church Windows

Christian Community Church Windows
Lead came and Lamberts antique glass

Location: Christian Community Church, Hillsdale, NY
Artist: Laura Summer
Architect: Camphill architects of Aberdeen, Scotland
Fabricator: D.J.R. Studio

The stained glass windows are composed to minimize distractions from the sacramental activity of the church, and instead, to be of service to this activity. The colors in the windows move from mostly blue toward the back of the church to mostly red in the front, an attempt to create a feeling of reverence by working with the color violet, but not using violet glass. The two windows near the altar are light-filled, clear and full of movement. Clear and German opal glass in tints of peach, goldpink, beige and pale green are used. The result is a play of color on the walls and floor, creating brilliant abstract "paintings."
